HardiPlank on ST. Johns 2 story- Suprise under existing siding.
We were hired to install HardiePlank on the majority of this house. A contractor previously installed Hardi on the south wall of the house, we noticed the install was not correct, we removed the trim and found rot, so we removed everything. A lesson to learn also for homeowners- Annually inspect your caulking at the trim, this one had never been re-caulked.
Notice the rot at all four corners of the window.
The studs on both sides of the window were rotten. Below, we have put it back together, with the HardiWrap installed and the HardieTrim properly installed and ready for the siding.
Jacksonville Home Improvement Tip: Consider Installing Vinyl Sliding Windows

For some people, the focal point of any room or area in the house is a beautiful window. What makes a beautiful window? If your window allows enough sunlight to the room and opens to a lot of fresh air to touch your skin during a cool summer night, then you have the perfect window. If you are planning to get replacement windows, you might want to consider Jacksonville vinyl sliding windows.
Vinyl is fast becoming to be a popular choice for a window material because of their versatility in design, beauty, convenience, and durability. Most homeowners love the fact that these sliding windows easily glide horizontally. Sliding windows have a fixed pane of glass and another one that opens and closes easily. It gives you an unobstructed view of your garden and the outdoors. These windows will also allow fresh air to flow through the room which is a great way to save on energy during the warmer months.
Windows made of vinyl are a good tool to decrease outside noise, aside from giving your home a new and visually stimulating appearance. The color lasts quite longer so repainting the window often is not necessary.
Vinyl windows are one of the most inexpensive replacement windows in the market today. Their window frames are easy to maintain since they don’t need to be sanded, painted, or scraped. When you are buying vinyl window frames, you have to make sure that you are getting the best quality materials. Check on its commercial rating. Check also on how thick the profile and frame is because that will determine the window’s strength and durability. Make sure, as well, that it is made of solid and high quality materials.
While Jacksonville vinyl sliding windows are not that difficult to install, it is still advisable if you get professional help, especially if you are not used to doing construction works at home. Vinyl windows are mounted the same way aluminum or wood windows are being done, but vinyl is a more sensitive material that is why proper care should be applied and an experienced builder can do that job very well.
Most of the time, manufacturers have certain recommendations on the way how certain materials are to be handled and a contractor or a builder will be able to understand all the construction terms that may be indicated by the manufacturer.
If you are not sure yet how you can find a good vinyl installer, it would help if you ask around the neighborhood. You might have noticed a neighbor having vinyl windows, start from there – ask for a referral. Normally, vinyl manufacturers have a list of reputable Jacksonville contractors; you can ask a manufacturer in your local area for recommendations. You can also ask your local construction inspection department.
When you already have a list of candidates, be sure to check on the company’s background – how long they have been in the business, if they have the necessary license, if they have a good reputation, and know also the quality of their work.
Jacksonville Vinyl sliding windows are excellent replacement windows – giving any room a breezy and cozy atmosphere.

Garage door screens
Two types of Garage door screens are available.
1. Removable sliding panels. Typical configuration on a 12′ door is 4 tracks (think sliding glass doors, but screens) with 4 panels that are 3′ wide each. These screens typically sit in place (but can be removed and stored), the garage door closes inside of the screen and a track is placed on the concrete that your car can drive over. http://www.pgtindustries.com/Pages/Main.aspx?PageID=106
Pros- least expensive, my price is $750 per 12′ door.
Cons- the door usually stays in place, the tracks get in the way, can be crushed by your car.
2. Breezy Living garage door. http://www.breezylivingscreens.com/features.htm You have to see this video! This is a pull down system, much like your garage door.
Pros- tracks out of the way when not in use, easy to operate.
Cons- more expensive. My price is $995 installed on a door up to 18′ wide, 7′ tall.
